With a mix of Malaysian, Japanese, Javanese, and Chinese blood, this multi-colored beauty has just released her self-titled debut album, Jemima. Released by demajors Independent Music Industry, her first ever track "Musik Sepi" was a protest song about the music situation in Indonesia. The song itself was based on her view about the current music scene that she saw right after she just got back from the US, having studied music production at Berklee College of Music. In this sensual soul-oriented album Jemima is not only the singer, she's also the producer, writer, arranger, even plays keyboard. Her friends, Fajar Adi Nugroho, Torank Ambarita, and Aditya Wibowo, support her for the rest of the album, taking care of the bass, guitar and drum department. Tampaknya blantika musik Indonesia sebentar lagi akan “gaduh”—atau malah sudah?—oleh pendatang baru berbakat cemerlang: Jemima.

Wanita bernama lengkap Jemima Sylvia Wilma Maria Iskandar ini belasan pekan silam melahirkan album debut bertajuk namanya sendiri, Jemima, berpartner dengan label rekaman demajors. Dalam kumpulan komposisi perdana berorientasi soul ini Jemima, selain menyanyi, juga mengurusi banyak departemen, ya bertindak sebagai produser, penulis lirik, arranger, hingga pemain keyboard. Selebihnya ia dibantu oleh Fajar Adi Nugroho (bas), Torank Ambarita (gitar), serta Aditya Wibowo (drum)—koalisi yang kerap diistilahkan oleh Jemima sebagai “The Orgasmic Brothers”. “Musik Sepi”, senandung bernada protes pada situasi musikal dalam negeri, dipilihnya sebagai single perdana. Lagu tersebut berkisah soal keterkejutannya sekembali dari manca negara dan mendapati dunia nyanyi-menyanyi bak kehilangan orientasi, membuatnya seketika depresi. Sementara di tembang yang lain, “Like Honey”, biduanita blasteran Malaysia-Jepang-Jawa-Cina ini tersimak sensual dibalut sayup-sayup Reggae.

Selain memiliki kemampuan menyanyi nan mengagumkan, biduanita yang sempat mengenyam pendidikan di New York jurusan menari serta Berklee College of Music, Boston, di bidang music production, serta kini berdomisili di Jakarta ini pun identik dengan imej seksi—menjadi kian seksi lagi begitu ditimpali oleh alunan vokalnya yang mendesah-menggeliat-menggoda. Namun, pada sebuah wawancara, ia mengaku citra sedemikian rupa bukanlah rekayasa. Terjadinya begitu saja. Jika lalu berujung pada impresi menggairahkan bagi para audiens, Jemima menganggap hal tersebut bukanlah masalah.
