Get In the Ring, Mick Wall!

And that goes for all you punks in the press That want to start shit by printin' lies Instead of the things we said That means you Andy Secher at Hit Parader Circus Magazine Mick Wall at Kerrang Bob Guccione Jr. at Spin, What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more pussy than you? Fuck you Suck my fuckin' dick..."Iya, tepat sekali, sumpah serapah di atas adalah penggalan dari tembang Get in the Ring dari Guns N’ Roses. Lagu yang aslinya ditulis oleh Duff McKagan---tadinya diberi judul Why Do You Look at Me When You Hate Me---dan merupakan bagian dari album Use Your Illusion II rilisan 17 September 1991 tersebut jelas sekali menggambarkan kekesalan Axl Rose dkk terhadap segepok media macam Circus, Hit Parader (khususnya Andy Secher), Kerrang (utamanya Mick Wall), serta Spin (yaitu Bob Guccione Jr.). Apa pasal?

…And that goes for all you punks in the press
That want to start shit by printin’ lies
Instead of the things we said
That means you
Andy Secher at Hit Parader
Circus Magazine
Mick Wall at Kerrang
Bob Guccione Jr. at Spin,
What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more
pussy than you?
Fuck you
Suck my fuckin’ dick…”

Iya, tepat sekali, sumpah serapah di atas adalah penggalan dari tembang Get in the Ring dari Guns N’ Roses. Lagu yang aslinya ditulis oleh Duff McKagan—tadinya diberi judul Why Do You Look at Me When You Hate Me—dan merupakan bagian dari album Use Your Illusion II rilisan 17 September 1991 tersebut jelas sekali menggambarkan kekesalan Axl Rose dkk terhadap segepok media macam Circus, Hit Parader (khususnya Andy Secher), Kerrang (utamanya Mick Wall), serta Spin (yaitu Bob Guccione Jr.). Apa pasal?

Kurang jelas apa pasal penyebab Axl & co. sebegitu kebakaran jenggot. Bob Guccione Jr. hingga hari ini tak memberi penjelasan benderang  mengenai asal mula kisruh band vs kritikus musik itu. Bob cuma merespons ajakan berantem dari Axl. Eh, belakangan malah Axl yang ogah “get in the ring”. Hehehe… dasar mulut besar…

Use Your Illusion II

Sementara itu silang sengkarut dengan Mick Wall konon dikarenakan buku Guns N’ Roses: The Most Dangerous Band in the World dimana kumpulan wawancara serta kisah yang ditulisnya bisa dibilang nihil sensor. Tak ada so-called “off the record”.

“rippin’ of the fuckin’ kids… printin’ lies, startin’ controversy…”

Mick Wall

Is that so?

“1. Axl threatening to kick my ‘bitchy little ass’ was not because of his reaction to the book I wrote about the band, Guns N’ Roses: The Most Dangerous Band in the World. The song was recorded long before the book was published.

2. Getting my name in a Guns N’ Roses song did not result in me losing my job on Kerrang!, the magazine which had printed many of my GN’R stories. I had already decided to leave some months before the Use Your Illusion II album was released, as friends and colleagues will confirm.”

3. Despite Axl’s assertions, I have never ripped of anybody’s children or deliberately told lies in anything I have written about Guns N’ Roses

Naiknya tensi darah Axl lalu tergerak mencipta lagu penuh gerutu itu bukan akibat buku yang ditulis Mick sebab Get in the Ring nongol duluan dibanding Guns N’ Roses: The Most Dangerous Band in the World.

Kerrang! edisi April 1990

Memang, di sesi wawancara Axl dengan nada mengancam bilang hendak membunuh Vince Neil, biduan Mötley Crüe. Mick berkisah,

The argument was over Vince’s wife, who’d claimed Izzy had come to her, while Axl now insisted it was the other way around and that it was Vince’s wife, a former mud-wrestler at The Tropicana, who had made a pass at Izzy…
Or something. It was a lot of nothing about nothing. But Axl was mad! he wanted to ‘kill that motherfucker’

Gerutu sampah Axl yang kemudian dimuat di Kerrang!—istilah Mick: it was a lot of nothing about nothing—itulah yang akhirnya menyulut “perang saudara” antara pecinta Crüe dan GNR. Yang berujung pada lahirnya Get in the Ring.

Axl is an asshole. I fuckin’ love Mick Wall!

Ha.
