Bayu Risa: Rise and Shine and Start Again

At the age of 10 he traveled around many South East Asian countries and even to the USA to sing with his vocal group. During his high school era, this Jakarta-based singer actively performing in cafes and school shows around town. He went to Bandung after he graduated and got busy with a band called Ever Nine. After quite a long break due to illness, he was asked to join Pasto which helped develop his reputation on the Indonesian music scene significantly. While he was still in Pasto they released an album produced by Glenn Fredly in 2007. Despite Pasto's ever growing fame, Bayu Risa decided to quit to pursue a solo career. In 2009 he released his first single, "Inner Beauty", which attracted a good amount of success. However things really started moving when he met Joseph Saryuf in 2010. Joseph then became his producer and helped him to release his first full-length solo album under Sinjitos Records called Rise and Start Again. The ten composition on the album are an eclectic mix of musical genres, from beautiful pop melodies to funk beats, from sexy R&B grooves to spaced out disco. The single "Percaya" performed well in many prestigious music charts across Indonesia. The single also helped Bayu to secure a position at the two major national music festivals, 'Playground' and 'Soulnation'. Recently, one of the song from Rise and Start Again was used in an ad campaign by a national mobile phone network operator.

Oh, bukan. Bayu Risa bukan anak kemarin sore di urusan berkesenian. Pria bernama lengkap Bayu Purwadi Risakotta ini bahkan telah aktif menyanyi sejak ia kanak-kanak. Di usia 10 tahun pemuda kelahiran Depok, 6 Oktober 1983, ini sudah melanglangbuana ke barisan negeri jiran di Asia Tenggara sampai jauh ke Amerika Serikat bersama kelompok vokal tempat dia bergabung.

Berangkat remaja, sepak terjangnya di urusan bersenandung makin menjadi dengan tampil rutin di beberapa kafe serta banyak acara sekolah. Pasca lulus sekolah ia pernah berkiprah di band bernama Ever Nine. Sampai akhirnya akibat jatuh sakit pada tahun 2005 Bayu harus berpisah sementara dari blantika musik. Dan begitu pulih, segera saja ia diminta bergabung dengan Pasto yang sontak melambungkan namanya menjadi artis yang cukup diperhitungkan. Bersama Pasto pada 2007 Bayu sempat merilis album perdana yang diproduseri oleh Glenn Fredly. Namun rupanya niat bebas merdeka lebih membuncah di dirinya sehingga pada 2008 ia resmi pergi dari Pasto.

Dengan didukung oleh sebarisan sejawat, di antaranya arranger tenar David “Tities” Salanggamo, Bayu berhasil melahirkan single solo pertama yang ditulisnya sendiri bertajuk “Inner Beauty” pada 2009. Bayu bilang bahwa memang sengaja memilih menerbitkan single dulu ketimbang album sebab yang penting baginya bukan tentang seberapa melimpah lagu yang ditulis kemudian dirilis tapi sekental apa hati dan perasaan yang dilibatkan di lagu tersebut.

Baru kemudian di tahun 2010 saat Bayu berjumpa dengan Joseph ‘Iyub’ Saryuf, ketika kontak sosial berujung pada kerjasama musikal, akhirnya berwujud pada kemunculan album debut Bayu Risa, Rise and Start Again. Sepucuk album nan eklektik di bawah label Sinjitos Records yang berkelana di jazirah pop, funk, R&B sampai space disco dimana Iyub menjabat menjadi produser. Sekeping album bertaburkan 10 lagu yang merefleksikan apresiasi tinggi Bayu dan Iyub pada musik apik serta perspektif giving back to the people.

Lagu andalannya, “Percaya”, juga melejit merajai banyak klasemen tembang di media-media musik wahid. Single itu pula yang mengantarkannya menjadi penampil utama di dua festival prestisius, Playground dan Soulnation. Paling mutakhir, bulan ini kabarnya salah satu lagu dari Rise and Start Again segera bakal menjadi theme song dari salah satu operator telekomunikasi seluler nasional.
